Welcome to my first post – About a Robin

Robin in the garden – Autumn 2012

Yikes, I’m doing it, starting my new blog, today, right now! Didn’t have the first clue as to how I was going to start this until I looked out of my kitchen window and noticed that one of our bird feeders had fallen off its perch (disaster!)but, more importantly, the sun was shining, the first time since New Year’s Day!!! If that isn’t enough to write about then I don’t know what is.

When I went into the garden to put the bird feeder back up, our robin appeared quite suddenly in the tree merely yards away from me. Now I say ‘our’ robin because ‘he’ was quite a regular visitor to our garden back in October. My husband and I caught those last glorious sunny autumn days just before it turns bitterly cold (or in our case, living in the West Country, murky and very, very wet) to do some final winterising jobs in the garden. ‘Our’ robin was a constant visitor, quietly watching us and it was a thrill to see him so close up, as can be seen from this photo taken at that time.

Eddie (cat) made it very clear that he would like to get to our robin and, in fact, we didn’t see the robin again. You can imagine what we thought…until, that is, today! My fat, round robin is back and I just know he recognised my voice when I started talking to him. Well, I like to think it is the same robin, and that he recognised me! Maybe I’m really losing the plot after all…anyway, it was a delight to see him today and he made my heart sing! It doesn’t take much to make me happy…

So that’s it, my first post! Robins, I love. My garden, I love. My summerhouse, lovely and cosy thanks to the fan heater blasting away. The sun is out and today, things feel pretty good.

  8. I just had to visit your first post and it just reaffirmed what I have always thought of you since I first stumbled upon your blog. Very positive outlook in life. Not everybody notices the simple things that you do. In this sometimes chaotic world, we tend to focus on the negative ones and rant. Visiting your blog is always refreshing Sherri. I love that your posts make me think and ponder about life and my experiences. I hope your Robin still visits you. 🙂

Ahh Jhanis, now I have two likes on my first ever post, how wonderful 🙂 Reading your beautiful words I have to say brought a little tear to my eye. You are so kind to have come over to this post written exactly one year ago, thanks so much for taking the time to do so.

I do find such joy in the simple things of life, but so often life conspires against such things and it is not so easy to battle the negativity and the chaos. To know that my posts are refreshing to you and cause you to ponder your life in such a way blesses me no end. You are a very dear friend to me and I very thankful to have met you.

I hope my robin visits again soon and when he does you will be the first to know 🙂
