Isn’t Modern Technology Wonderful: Yeah Right!

Modern technology – wonderful when it works, but when it doesn’t it’s a nightmare.

Hi everyone, this is a very quick update to apologise for not being able to reply to your lovely comments on my posts or catch up with your blogs today as planned because my laptop is not cooperating, putting it mildly.  I’m hoping to have it back by late Wednesday.

Very annoying to say the least.

As soon as I get it back I will catch up with you once more  (Is it me, or am I always playing catch-up these days??)

Don’t have too much fun without me, will you?

Love Sherri x

Good luck with that. We are really beholden to the computer geeks at times like this, aren’t we? 🙂

Thanks so much Heather, and yes, no fun at all. It’s been a very trying week, will be posting shortly. Still, I’m back so glad about that and yes, I did manage to be productive in other ways whilst ‘unplugged’ but not as much as I hoped I could have been…ah well, ’tis life… 😉 I hope you’ve had a good week and a lovely weekend too 🙂

Good luck…we’ve all been there. The highlight for me is NEVER having ink when I need something printed. Ah yes, the joys of being mother to teenage boys and auntie to crafty teenage girls! LOL We’ll see you when you come back!

Thanks so much Maine Mama, I appreciate that! I know just what you mean. When my three kids were all still living at home I had the exact same problems with the ink and the paper running out. Now my daughter just ‘borrows’ my stuff and somehow I never seem to see it again… 😉
It’s good to be back and now lots of catching up to do. Hope you had a good week and a good weekend too 🙂

Hi Sherri, sorry to hear you are having computer problems. As you know, I teach Blogging as an aid to recovery – How to start a WordPress.com blog with a co-tutor and the biggest challenge we faced, was the fact the computers didn’t allow all of the WordPress.com features to work.

Hi Sandra, thanks so much and also for your email which I will reply to and apologies for not doing so sooner. With so many computer problems even before I went ‘offline’ I wasn’t able to do much at all. Really appreciate you taking the time to help me with my query. I’m up and running again now though, phew 🙂

What a nuisance for you that the computers weren’t being able to utilize all the WordPress.com features. I hope you were able to get the problems ironed out. These things slow us down so much!

Hope things are going well with your book, I’m looking forward to catching up with you asap 🙂

Don’t worry. I am just glad that your computer is fixed. The Introduction to blogging course is cancelled for tomorrow because two people pulled out and we no longer have enough people but I still have a Tutor meeting tomorrow. I start teaching Blogging as an aid to recovery on the 24th of Feb. I still have some more work to do on my book before I publish it.

You are one busy lady! Sorry about the cancellations but hope all goes well on the 24th and also with your publication. After all you’ve been through I really do hope that from now on you will start to see the fruit of all your labours 🙂
My computer is fixed, but I’m having to get all my personal settings put back on and it is taking ages, as these things always seem to do…

Still in the process of agreeing assignment of copyright with my illustrator and then I have to finish the final book edit. I have three people wanting to buy it so far. I have got to fill in a 15 page application form for the NHS, to go on there staff bank for the teaching. I know it will take a while for you to get everything back on your computer. I had problems with my Mac a few years ago and the operating system was corrupted. The Apple team had to get the settings and information from my hard drive and transfer it back to my Mac.

Oh isn’t it such a nuisance when this happens with our computers? I used to work for the NHS so I know full well about those application forms. All the best with it all Sandra 🙂

Thanks Sherri. I was filling in the application form until about 1am this morning and I still have 3 pages to do. By the time I cleaned my pigs and went to bed, it was almost 2.30am. I only got about 5 hours sleep before going to work. I plan to finish the application tonight, so I can focus on completing my Break through the barriers of redundancy book. I can’t wait to chill in Bristol on the 14th, by having a packed day of things to do. I am chilled when living life to the max. I guess that sounds a bit quirky.

I’m taking a shortish (I hope) sabbatical to complete the edit on the first draft of my book, as you will see by my last post… but I will be watching from a distance, don’t want to miss too much of the good stuff…

I am in rural Thailand at the moment and in something of a technological black hole although I have just managed to hook myself up to the internet. Not sure how long it will last though but if I disappear until next week, you’ll know why.

  11. We’re in this together, Sherri. I’ve been offline for 2 weeks. MAJOR computer issues. I think things are back in the rights again now. I have a new computer, with all new software to learn. Ugh!

Best wishes to you–don’t stress out too much.

Hi Tracy, oh yes I did wonder where you had been as I had not seen a recent post from you and hoped things were OK. Now I know! What a major pain it is isn’t it? I have my laptop back but it was wiped and restored to it’s original factory setting so now I have the joy of getting everything back again to how it was before. Still have a broken touch pad, lost all my passwords, settings and still have to reconfigure iTunes. Still, I think (I hope!!) all the glitches are out of the way. It’s the hassle of having to deal with all the new software that is so challenging so I do feel your pain 😦

Thanks for the kind wishes, sending the very same back to you and looking forward to catching up with you asap… 🙂

      • I did pretty well with it–decided to see it as welcome time in which to do…. whatever… and took a deep breath, decided that “this is the way it IS, so just go with it.”

I’m excited about all the new programs I’m learning and skills I’m gaining.

        And glad we’re back in touch… 😀

Yes, it is great to be in touch again 🙂 I have to admit that I was able to get on with all those other things I had been putting off and although I missed being online greatly, I was surprised at how much I accomplished offline! It’s good that you are enjoying learning all your new skills. Certainly a learning curve, that’s for sure!

  16. Sherri, With or without computer glitches time is a real problem. i know you are trying to write your manuscript as well and have a family to spend time with. I’m also finding that I am not keeping up with my visits as frequently as I should so instead of you apologising I’ll apologise for my tardy reply.😀
